Working fire in Park Ridge, 2-18-16 (more)
This report comes from Steve Redick:
On Thursday, I arrived at a house fire where heavy flames were shooting out from a one-story addition at the back of the house. Before I got there, exposure B was briefly under threat. I think extensive efforts to open up hidden areas were necessary, likely because of the specific construction features of the addition. Fortunately, the fire was brought under control fairly quickly. It’s worth noting that the tower ladder, which was the first unit on scene, was used like an engine company and provided all the attack lines.

The situation was challenging but manageable. The firefighters did a commendable job of containing the fire before it could spread further. The use of the tower ladder as both a command post and supply line was innovative and efficient. It really highlighted the adaptability required in firefighting scenarios like this one.
Looking at the images, you can see the extent of the damage caused by the fire. The addition clearly took the brunt of it, but thanks to quick action, the main structure of the house remained largely intact. The video footage gives a good sense of the scale of the operation, showing multiple units working in coordination to extinguish the blaze and ensure safety.
Overall, it was a reminder of how crucial teamwork and resourcefulness are in managing complex fire incidents. The firefighters’ ability to adjust their strategy based on the building's unique layout made a significant difference in limiting the damage. It’s always tough to see property loss, but knowing that no lives were put at risk is a relief.
