House fire in Long Grove, 3-31-16

From a Reader: > CODE 4: 3699 CUBA RD > Thu 03/31/2016 @ 21:46 This all started when Long Grove received a call about a potential brush fire reported by the police. When they arrived on scene, they drove down the long driveway and quickly realized this wasn’t just any brush fire—it was a fully involved, vacant, one-story building. Long Grove immediately upgraded the situation to a Code 4 and went defensive right from the start to keep the flames from spreading to the surrounding thick brush and trees. Later, the incident was escalated further to a Box Alarm for tenders only. The firefighting efforts involved several key operations: - Three lines were in use: two 2 ½-inch lines and one 1 ¾-inch line. At some point, one of the 2 ½-inch lines was replaced with a Blitzfire portable master stream. - Tender 56 acted as the attack pumper. - Prospect Heights Tanker 9 was the first mutual aid company and supplied water to Tender 56. - Palatine Rural Tanker 36 served as the second mutual aid tanker and provided additional support. - Palatine Engine 82 positioned itself at the driveway entrance and connected its large-diameter hose (LDH) from Cuba Road to Prospect Heights Tanker 9.
