High angle rescue in Deerfield
This just in from Deerfield: Around 1:30 PM today, the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District got a call about a window washer stuck high up near the top of a seven-story building on 520 Lake-Cook Road. As soon as they heard the report, emergency responders sprang into action, calling in extra help from neighboring units. When the first team arrived, they found the worker hanging upside down, about six feet below the roofline. Realizing the severity of the situation, the alarm was upgraded to bring in even more specialized rescue teams.
It didn’t take long for Deerfield Truck 20 to get into position. They skillfully maneuvered their aerial ladder close to the building and extended it all the way up to where the worker was trapped. Firefighters scaled the ladder with precision and worked quickly to untangle the worker from the ropes that had him stuck. Once freed, they carefully brought him down to safety.
We’ve managed to gather some photos from people who were on the scene, but unfortunately, none of them capture the moment before the rescue took place. One particularly striking image shows the window washer looking relatively calm after being brought down, speaking with a police officer. Another shot captures the moment he was escorted to an ambulance to get checked over by medical personnel.
The situation could have turned out much worse, but thanks to the quick thinking and expertise of the firefighters, the worker walked away without any visible injuries. We’ll keep you updated as we receive more images and details about this dramatic rescue. Stay tuned for further developments!
