High angle rescue in Deerfield

This just in from Deerfield: Around 1:30 PM today, the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District got a distress call about a window washer stuck high up near the top of a seven-story building at 520 Lake-Cook Road. As soon as they heard about it, they called for backup from multiple fire companies. When the first team arrived, they found the worker hanging upside down, about six feet below the roofline. Things got serious fast, so they called for even more specialized rescue teams. Thankfully, Deerfield’s Truck 20 made its way over quickly and positioned itself perfectly in front of the building. They raised their aerial ladder all the way up to where the worker was trapped. Firefighters scrambled up the ladder and managed to untangle him from the ropes that had him stuck. They brought him down safely without any injuries—lucky break there. I’ve got some photos coming in from folks who were on the scene, but unfortunately, none of them capture the moment before he was rescued. However, I did get one image showing the guy looking okay after being pulled to safety. Another shot shows him being helped into an ambulance to make sure everything checks out fine. Take a look at these shots below; they really tell the story of how quickly things can go wrong but also how well-trained our local firefighters are at handling emergencies like this. I’ll keep you updated once I receive more pictures or any further details.
