Deck fire in Prospect Heights, 8-9-18
From the Prospect Heights Fire District:
The call came in regarding a potential structure fire. Before the first responders even arrived on scene, dispatch communicated that the fire had already been put out. It turned out that a smoldering fire in a planter box had dropped burning material onto the rear deck, sparking a small fire there. Upon arrival, firefighters from Prospect Heights Engine 9, Tower 9, Battalion 9, along with support from Wheeling Engine 23 and other units, quickly assessed the situation. They cut away and removed the affected deck board along with some trim, ensuring there was no further risk of fire spreading. The team thoroughly washed down the area to ensure complete extinguishment and prevent any reignition.
While the fire itself was relatively contained, the response was thorough and professional. Backup units, including Prospect Heights Engines 39 and 900, as well as additional support from Melrose Park Tower 13 and Ambulance 14, ensured a swift and coordinated effort. The firefighters stayed on site to check for any hidden embers and to confirm that the fire hadn’t spread beyond the immediate area.
