Alley garage fire in Chicago, 12-4-18
I just came across some incredible photos from a recent garage fire here in Chicago. These were taken in an alley off South Maplewood near 70th Street on December 4th, 2018. By the time the photographer arrived, the flames had already been mostly contained.
The first image shows firefighters hard at work dousing the remnants of the blaze. You can see how intense it must have been before they got there. Another shot captures a close-up of one firefighter’s face—there's a real determination in his expression that speaks volumes about their dedication.
There’s also a great photo of Engine 101 from the Chicago Fire Department on the scene. It’s always reassuring to see these guys ready to spring into action whenever needed. Some other shots highlight different angles of the firefighting effort, including more images of the crew working together to fully extinguish the fire.
What struck me most was how quickly things can escalate in situations like this. The contrast between the chaos of the initial response and the calm professionalism of the firefighters is really powerful. It’s moments like these that remind us why we’re so grateful for our local heroes.

It’s crazy to think about how quickly a small issue can turn into something much bigger without proper precautions. Let’s hope everyone involved stayed safe during this incident. Big thanks to the photographers who captured these moments—they help us understand the challenges faced by first responders every day.
