On May 22, 2017, the 23rd Battalion of the Chicago Fire Department responded to a Still Alarm at 88th and Eberhart due to a reported house fire. Engine Company 82 and Truck Company 42 were the first on scene and found a two-story frame house, measuring 25x50 feet, located at 501 E. 88th Street. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire on the second floor and in the cockloft of the balloon-frame structure. They deployed three lines and extended two main ladders to the roof to combat the flames. The crews worked for approximately 1.5 hours before the fire was under control and they began their cleanup.
The home was occupied at the time of the fire, and one family had to be temporarily displaced.
