Shanghai Petrochemical Carbon Separation Unit
The installation of the 150,000-ton-per-year carbon separation plant equipment at Shanghai Petrochemical Company officially started this month. The project is expected to be completed and begin operations in the second half of 2009. Once fully operational, the carbon 5 plant’s separation capacity will increase to an annual output of 200,000 tons, significantly boosting the company's production capabilities.
In recent years, Shanghai Petrochemical has made significant progress through its independent research and development of carbon 5 production technology. This advancement has allowed the company to effectively utilize and process various isomers, including isoprene, isopentene, piperylene, dicyclopentadiene, and pentane. As a result, their polymer-grade products now dominate a large portion of the domestic market. Additionally, high-quality polymer-grade isoprene and isoprene are being exported to the European Union, further expanding the company's international presence.
This new facility not only strengthens Shanghai Petrochemical’s position in the chemical industry but also supports the country’s efforts to enhance self-reliance in key petrochemical materials. With the increased production capacity, the company is well-positioned to meet growing domestic demand and continue its expansion into global markets.
