Joliet house fire 6-28-11

Jim Skrabel witnessed a fire this morning in Joliet at 1701 Sierra Highland Court. Here's his firsthand account of the incident: "A two-story home was engulfed on one side, with heavy flames that caused damage to the neighboring house. Engine 9, the first arriving unit, made a strong attack and managed to knock the fire down by the time I arrived. Two 1 3/4-inch lines were deployed from Engine 9, and Truck 9 had its jacks ready in case they needed to use the aerial device on the roof. The scene was quickly secured with multiple units responding—Engines 9, 8, and 10, along with Truck 9, B/C 2, and ambulances 8, 9, and 10." The fire appeared to be under control shortly after arrival, but crews remained on site to ensure no embers were left burning. Several photos taken by Jim show the extent of the damage, including scorched siding on the adjacent home and firefighters working to extinguish remaining flames near the soffit. One image captures the moment when Engine 9’s crew used a hand line to tackle the last remnants of the fire. Another shows the neighbor's house suffering heat damage to its exterior. Truck 9 was positioned in case the fire spread further, demonstrating the preparedness of the responding units. These images give a clear view of the intensity of the fire and the professionalism of the firefighters who responded swiftly and effectively. The community was fortunate that the fire was contained quickly, preventing further destruction.
