Jim Skrabel witnessed a fire this morning in Joliet at 1701 Sierra Highland Court. Here's his firsthand account of the incident: A two-story home was engulfed in heavy flames on one side, which caused damage to the neighboring house. Engine 9, the first unit on scene, made a strong attack and had the fire under control by the time I arrived. Two 1 3/4-inch hoselines were deployed from Engine 9, and Truck 9 was ready with the aerial ladder in case they needed to access the roof. Other units on site included Engines 8, 9, and 10, Truck 9, B/C 2, and ambulances 8, 9, and 10. Firefighters used a hand line to tackle the remaining fire near the soffit after quickly bringing down the exterior flames.
