Chicago working fire 9-3-13

Today, I witnessed a fire at 727 W Lake Street (Mellos Peanut Co). Battalion Chief 3 arrived on scene to find a two-story building with smoke coming from the rear. Engine 42 pulled down the alley to make a forward attack. Truck 19 was in sector 3 and extended the ladder to the roof. Engine 42 quickly knocked down the fire, only to discover that it was a batch of peanuts burning inside a large container.

It was an unusual callâ€”nothing more than a container full of peanuts catching fire, but still something worth documenting. The firefighters handled it quickly and efficiently, showing their usual professionalism. Itâ€™s always interesting to see how different situations unfold, even if theyâ€™re not what you expect. These moments remind us that every incident is unique, and sometimes the most unexpected things can lead to the most memorable stories.
