Calculation of the Main Window Size of Six-head Hydraulic Press

When designing the main body of a six-faced hydraulic press, determining the structural dimensions involves more than just calculating the mechanical strength of the components. It also requires evaluating the internal space formed by the articulation of the six groups of hinged beams, which is commonly referred to as the "window" size. Accurate calculation of this window is essential for ensuring proper functionality and ease of maintenance.

The window size must be sufficient to allow for the easy installation and removal of large accessories such as pads and jackets. A well-designed window not only helps in keeping the mainframe compact but also enhances the overall rigidity and stability of the structure. This makes it an important factor in the design process.

There are two primary configurations for the main window of a six-head hydraulic press. The size of the window can be calculated using specific formulas that have been proven effective through practical application. These formulas are simple, efficient, and reliable, making them widely used in engineering practice.

1. The size of the window formed by the adjacent three hinged beam tabs.

AB = (LB)√2/2 - RD1 = AB / cos30°

In the formula:

AB: Edge length of the equilateral triangle
D1: Diameter of the circumscribed circle
L: Center distance between hinge pieces
B: Total thickness of the hinge beam triple head set
R: Radius of the hinge beam ear

This concept is illustrated in Figure 1.

2. The dimensions of the windows formed by the arcuate end faces of the adjacent three groups of hinge beam components, such as cylinders, guide sleeves, and pistons.

CD = (√2 × l - φ)/2
D2 = CD / cos30°

In the formula:

CD: Edge length of the equilateral triangle
D2: Diameter of the circumscribed circle
l: Distance between the opposing circular arc end faces
φ: Total thickness of the hinged lugs

This concept is shown in Figure 2.

Practical experience has shown that it is a good design practice to ensure that the diameter of the smallest circumscribed circle around the equilateral triangle formed by the window is at least 300 mm. This ensures enough clearance and flexibility in operation, contributing to the long-term reliability of the hydraulic press.
