This message is from John Tulipano: At approximately 05:40 on January 5th, St. Charles Fire Department was called to a smoke report at 828 S. 3rd Street. Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire in the basement of the building. A box alarm was initially dispatched, followed by a second alarm. The structure collapsed before I arrived, and when I got there, emergency crews were already in a defensive position. They were using one ladder pipe, one deck gun, and seven hoselines to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
